Why a Seat Ibiza Replacement Key Won’t Work

A newer generation of driver assist take the Ibiza to a whole new level. Travel Assist ensures that your vehicle is able to keep up with the traffic, while Lane Assist eliminates the stress of changing lanes.

Take off the battery compartment cover on the key fob (A). Utilizing a thumb nail or flat-head screwdriver to pull upwards the cover, then replace the CR2025 battery.

Dead Coin Battery

If your key fob isn’t functioning and you’re not able to reprogram it with an entirely new code, the most likely cause is a dead battery in the coin. Replace it and you’ll be able to make it functional and running again. You can do it yourself in under 10 minutes.

Flip the key open first from the side with no metal rings. It is possible to open the clip-on lid by using your nail. The old battery can then be pushed out through the hole in the middle. Be aware that if you replace the battery incorrectly, or using a battery not suitable, it could cause damage to the remote. Replace the battery with the same size, voltage and specification as the original.

If your key device was submerged in water you might also need to clean the chip prior to replacing the battery. This is particularly important especially if you’ve dropped it into the ocean or in soapy wash water. This should be done immediately, as exposure to water can damage the chip’s electronic circuit and cause your key fob to stop functioning.

Worn Buttons

The most common reason a Seat Ibiza replacement key fails to function is due to the battery of the coin being dead. It’s a simple fix that will take only several minutes. The key fob may be inoperable if its buttons are worn. G28 is also a simple fix, and requires you to swap out the old key shell with an entirely new one.

It’s important to know that the button cell battery must be replaced properly or damage could occur to the key fob. It’s recommended to always utilize a brand new battery that is the same voltage, size and specifications. It’s also important to ensure that the direction of the new battery is facing upwards.

The key fob is protected by rubber seals that will keep water out. However submerging the keyfob in water can cause the seals to crack and damage the electronic chip inside. This usually happens if you accidentally drop your key fob in the pool or leave it in the rain. If your key fob still does not work after replacing it or reprogramming, the receiver module could be defective.

Water Damage

Rubber seals on the key fob prevent water from getting into the electronic chip. However it’s not enough to stop the occasional bath or splash. If your pet has survived a wash cycle, or an ocean swim, it could have damaged the chip.

This can be fixed by taking the battery off and cleaning the chip with isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner. Allow it to dry completely, then put it back. If the chip is damaged then it must be replace it with a brand new one.

If your key fob won’t function after changing the battery or reprogramming it, the issue could be with the receiver module. It is the part inside the car that receives signals from the key fob and transmits them to the key ignition system. If you have a spare key fob, you can test it. The central locking should turn on and the ignition system light should illuminate. If this doesn’t occur and the receiver is not working, then it could be defective. This is a costly fix, however, it can be fixed by a professional in your local garage.

Radio Interference

The receiver module inside your key could be causing interference. It can be fixed by replacing the key with an entirely new receiver module from Seat parts.

To replace the battery, flip out the key part and then using your thumb nail or flat head screwdriver gently prise upwards the key fob’s compartment cover. Take off the old CR2025 and replace it with a new battery, ensuring that the polarity is correct. You can also use a standard-sized key with the transponder chip that was transferred from the worn or damaged key. It can be coded and cut to fit your car as needed.

Faulty Receiver Module

The receiver module inside your key fob transmits radio signals to your car. If the fob ceases to function, it could be that the module has failed. This can be detected with an OBDII scan tool or by getting in touch with the dealer.

Other devices that utilize the same frequency can interfere with the remote keyless entry system. This could include wireless phone transmitters, electronic devices, and even a few household appliances.

If the fob is exposed clean tap water, it could be possible to clean the electronic chip with paper towels and isopropyl Alcohol. If the fob’s key has been submerged in salty or soapy water or left for a long time on a surface that is wet, it will almost certainly be damaged and need to be replaced.

To change the battery, use a small screwdriver with a flat head or a fingernail, to pry open the compartment for button cell batteries (B). Remove the old battery and insert an CR2025 replacement battery, making sure that the “+” polarity is facing upwards.
